2012

I don’t believe anyone ever succeeds with resolutions for a new year. They’re difficult to stick to and easy to forget. They end up becoming rules that strap you to a fixed lifestyle….a restricted lifestyle.

I know it’s going to be a big year for me- graduation, senior thesis, finding a job, becoming financially independent.

Thus- i’ve thought of some goals and new ideas to make the most out of my 2012.

Again, these aren’t resolutions but just goals to strive for to make my year more fulfilling.

1. Read more books, read more news. I need to get in touch with what’s happening in the world. The world does not revolve around fashion design. Also, current events could even influence the way I think about fashion.

2. Cook for my friends. It’s my way of showing people how much I love them. So I’m going to try to show them more love :)

3. Work my ass off on my senior thesis. I’ve got one shot to make my own collection with no limitations. I need to go FULL out. No sleeping. More working. Make it the BEST it will ever be.

4. Put myself out there professionally. No one knows who I am in the fashion industry. I have nothing to lose and only things to gain. I need to put myself out there and network with whoever I can meet. You’ll never know who will be able to help you in the long run..might as well meet everyone you could possibly meet!

5. Don’t lower expectations for jobs. Strive for the highest and best job possible. I might be fresh out of school as of May, but it doesn’t mean I can’t take on a large workload. Set high goals for 2012.

6. Explore new york. I am so lucky to live in the most fascinating city in the world. I should be taking more advantage of scenery, sites, stores, food, music, etc. There is always something to do and I should be doing that. Not sitting inside/ tumbling / watching Grey’s Anatomy all day.

7. Make more travel plans. That’s part of my exploratory goals. I need to see the world. I’m so inexperienced….I still haven’t been to Dia Beacon and it’s only 40 minutes outside of the city. I haven’t seen Europe either. Just Paris, not that it’s unsatisfactory, but there’s SO much to see. I need to check it out.

8. Be a better godmother. I’m going to make a huge effort to spend more time with my godkids, Sebastian and Siena. They’re only young for so long and I can’t miss it.

More goals to come…I’m raising the bar for 2012!

Bucket List

With the free time that I’ve had lately, i’ve thought up a bucket list**….

I’m determined and set out to complete these things. Not that they’re unachievable but I have am going to need a hell of a lot of motivation, especially at the pace i’ve been moving in the past two weeks…

  • Complete a senior thesis
  • Move to Paris to work in the fashion industry by day, cook by night
  • Enjoy a tasting dinner at all four-star/ 3-Michelin Star restaurants in New York City {Masa still counts even though Sam Sifton stripped it of one star this week}
  • Have dinner with Sam Sifton
  • Work for Scott Schuman/ Garance Doré at some point in my college career
  • Write a cookbook after graduation: a collection of personal recipes and recipes handed down by my family {Oh, I also plan on illustrating ALL recipes or steps for each recipe in watercolor}
  • Take a European tour
  • Take cooking classes in France at Le Cordin Bleu
  • Go wine tasting in Italy and France
  • Bungee jump off a bridge in Switzerland
  • Island hop in the Philippines
  • Visit my Grandfather’s birth place in Spain
  • Sail the Greek Islands in a sail boat
  • Open up a bakery when I’m done with fashion
  • Learn how to dance on point and hip hop

**A bucket list for now…That’s what I have so far off of the top of my head.
